International women's day

Under the skies of Figueira XXIV

Olá, Linda Figueira da Foz!

March 8, Monday, International Women’s Day. Figueira da Foz, here is the opportunity for another one of those stories that I like to tell about “the Figueirense Way of Life”.

Marinha das Ondas

Figueira, you surprise me every day. Its parishes offer peculiarities and stories that charm anyone. Today, one of them, the Marinha da Ondas parish, gifts me the ideal character to honor, on March 8, 2021, the International Women’s Day: the Figueirense Teacher Dulce Pedrosa, who has Isabel Lino and volunteer collaborators at her side.

Integrity

The story of this Woman enchants me and she represents me! I’m on her team! I am proud to be a woman like Professor Dulce Pedrosa from Freguesia Marinha das Ondas, Municipality of Figueira da Foz, PT and I tell you why:

– I don’t personally know Teacher Dulce Pedrosa, but facts indicate that this sweet Figueirense belongs to the list of those people who donate themselves without restrictions, who when they realize that they can help, immediately “roll up their sleeves” (as my grandfather used to say) and do .. . and persist …

And, there is more, from what I researched, the Portuguese Language Teacher Dulce Pedrosa is part of those who are born for teaching; she is sweet, determined, calm and – what is best – she knows (and shows) that knowledge is not private property: when you really have it, you share it!

The voice of the heart

You must be asking, how can I know the attributes of Professor Dulce if I don’t know her personally. Now, I invite you, who followd this column, to watch the video in which she recounts how the idea of the Portuguese Language Teaching Project came up, aimed at Asian immigrants from Marinha das Ondas.

As soon as Teacher Dulce heard about immigrants’ communication difficulties, she said:

– “Okay, so if we find a space, we will do anything.” (see video below)

The project, which started in 2014, is a success today.

Project History

See report below:

“Volunteering project allowed integration of immigrants in the community”

“Diário de Aveiro Immigrants from Nepal, Bangladesh and India“ rejuvenate ”the parish”

“Almost all have higher education and have left their country in search of better living conditions. After less positive “experiences” (in other countries and in the Alentejo), some arrived at Marinha das Ondas and got a job at Lusiaves. Then, it was “get the word out” and now there are dozens, which give new life to an aged parish. This “movement” in the small community, caught the attention of Dulce Pedrosa (Portuguese teacher in Leiria, a native of Marinha das Ondas, where she goes on weekends) and Isabel Lino, director of the Associação Cultural, Recreativa e Desportiva Marinhense . «We saw that they had difficulty understanding what they were told», explains Dulce Pedrosa and «we offer to give them some idea of the language, first in the community, in a rudimentary way, but as they are interested, the Paião School Group lends the School Center ”. https://www.diarioaveiro.pt/noticia/31548

Dear reader, who always follows this column, see below the video in which the Teacher tells how the project started. In this way, you will have the chance to know the sweetness and simplicity of this “Tough Portuguese Lady” and the team that advises her.

See you, beautiful Figueira!

To you, who follows this column, until our next meeting.

To all Healthcare Professionals of the world, our eternal gratitude.
